Diet
Using your graphic organizer from class, write an informational paragraph (5-6 sentences) about what you’ve learned about your animal’s diet. Be sure to type quality sentences, using the correct grammatical marks. You will be graded on a 4-point scale for this post.
Bats eat insects, fruit, and small animals such as mice. As you know, bats hunt for food at night,which means they are nocturnal! Here is an intresting fact! Did you know that some kinds of bats eat meat, such as birds, smaller bats, and rodents or fish!
The swordfish is a carnivore. Swordfishes eat mackrel, herring, sardines, flying fish, and cutterfish. Its favorite food is squid. Sometimes swordfish use their tail to kill its prey. That seems deadly. Doesn't it?
Komodo dragons have a prodigious appetite. It will eat anything from pigs to water buffalo. Favorites of these animals are deer and water buffalo. Komodo dragons eat anything they can overpower such as an injured human. In a zoo, dragons are fed frozen rats! As you can see, a komodo dragon is carnivorous. Komodo dragons are patient hunters. Infact, they let another dragon cross territory when on a food run. Young dragons eat insects, birds, eggs, small mammals, and other reptiles. Because of all this, komodo dragons are the top predator in their range.
The moles diet is worms, snails, insects, invertebrates, and maybe snakes. Saliva contains a toxic that can paralyze worms. Before eating the mole squeezes the guts out of the prey. The mole stores its prey in its mouth. Another way moles store food is larders there like small mud containers.
Penguins eat mostly fish. They also eat krill. Penguins also eat squid. They eat mostly fish, krill and squid. Seals can eat penguins. Whales and sea lions also snack on penguins. So do sharks and giant petrels. Baby penguins are often taken by skuas.
The hooded seals mostly feed on are fish. Hooded seals also eat Greenland halibut,redfish,cod,wolffish,capelin,and herring. Octopus,squid,shrimps,mussels are also eaten and starfish . Know as predators are polar bears,Greenland sharks,and Killerwhales.
Vultures, as you probaly know, eat dead animals. They have a great sense of smell. New Word vultures (a type of vulture) also have an acute sense of eyesight, too. That's how they find dead, or dying animals. There are two types of vultures. There's New World (which are found in the Americas) and Old World (which are found in Asia, Africa, and Europe).
The vulture has a heavy, hooked beak. It's feet are really stubby, so the vulture doesn't walk too well. Their claws, though, are extremely sharp. That's how vultures grip their prey. Now the wings are really something to look at. They're 12 feet long! One of their more unpleasent features is their bald head. But still, it's an adaptation. A cool thing is that vultures have a nostril hole right through their beak! So you could look into one side of the nostril hole and see out the other!!
A hedgehog has a strange diet.It can even eat snakes and lizards!Mostly a hedgehog eats insects.But there is more to the strange diet part.It can eat birds.
Did you know that cheetahs main appetite are Gazelles? Well, you might of been thinking that little animals are its main appetite but NO they like to eat big animals because it fills their belly full more. If there is no sight of food, they will eat a small animal. That happens about 17 days out of 1 year. Now thats rare!
Did you know that Cheetah's main apitite is Gazelle? Well its true! When they have nothing else to eat which is VERY RARE, they eat little animals like birds.
King cobras are carnivores. That means they only eat meat.There main foods are lizards and non-venomous baby snakes or venomous snakes. Other things are eggs, small mammals. Only birds of prey eat them, but sometimes the king cobra strikes at the birds and if the king cobra doesn't miss that bird becomes their dinner.
Sea urchins eat algae! They use their teeth to rip off the algae and then tear it up and eat it. Their favorite food is kelp. They also eat dead matter.Did you know that people can eat sea urchins also?
The chameleon eats bugs and plants. That means this animal is an omnivore. Omnivores eat plants and animals. To catch their food they shoot their sticky tongue out. Do you know what else chmeleons eat?
My animal is a glow worm. The glow worm eats insects. Some cave glow worms fish for prey with strands of silk. They use their light to lure the prey into the strands. Glow worns are near the bottom of the food chain. Adult glow worms don't eat much, but the larvae are hunters and feed on small slugs and snails.
Tuna eat other fish. Tuna also eat the fish herring. Tuna also eat the fish mackeral. Tuna eat the fish menhaden. Sharks eat tuna(of course). Dolphins eat tuna by their quickness. Marlins eat tuna(do not know what they are). Tuna catch their prey in big groups. Sometimes when tuna are in big groups they scare their own predators away!
Camels are herbivores. That means that they eat only plants. Most camels are fed by people like zoo visitors can feed them or people who actully ride camels give them some food. If people don't feed camels, they would just eat some grass. Camels also eat weat and oats.
The Spitting Cobra is a picky eater. The Spitiing Cobra eats snakes,lizards,frogs,rodents, bird, eggs and other small mammals. The snake rarely bites and causes human death. These snakes don't see many people because of where they live so they are not aggressive.
I was born and raised in Kansas, but moved to Texas when my dad was transferred in high school. I attended Texas A&M University, where I graduated with an Education degree and was the manager of the Fightin' Texas Aggies Volleyball Team. I enjoy reading, cooking, coaching, and exercising.
