Book Study Expectations

For the next month, you are going to create a Wacky Wesearch report on an animal with unique adaptations. Each night, on your Reading Homework Log, a question will be posted on the blog. You will need to answer the question in paragraph form (4-5 sentences). When you are finished, you should read other classmates' "wesearch", too.

You will be graded on a 4-point scale for each post. I will not only be grading the content you share about your animal, but also grammar. If you do not complete an assignment, you will lose 10 points each day until it is completed. All assignments must be completed by 8:00am the following day, or it is late! It is your responsibility to ensure each assignment is completed to your best ability!

When your "Wacky Wesearch" is done, you will create a final product to share with the class about your animal. Your product can be in the form of a children's book, ABC book, diorama, podcast, photostory, reader's theatre, puppet show, or another idea of your choice. If you choose to do something other than an idea mentioned above, you will need to get approval.

You will receive grades for the "Wacky Wesearch" project in Reading, Writing, Speech, and Science.

  1. I like this project. I am doing the tuna, I know it is yummy but it has a really unique adaptation. The adaptation is that it can remember where it was born and swims back to where it was born and comes from thousands of miles away! If you want to know more about tuna then go to Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia. I am going to do the brochure.

  2. This project will be cool. It was fun that you let us choose our own animal. The animal I chose was the Komodo dragon. It's unique adaptation is the venom it has in its tongue.

  3. I'm doing the vulture. Did you know that vultures have a wingspan of 12ft?! That's how vultures fly so beautifully. It's hooked beak is strong, but it's heavy. Also, all vultures are bald!! That's actually an adaptation! A bald head means no feathers to keep clean and vultures are big-time eaters.

  4. Hey it's Haley, I am doing my project on the sea urchin. It has a really cool adaptation because... If you touch the spines it will turn into a direction of battle and when that happens...RUN!Or in this case...SWIM! Because the spines can kill you!

  5. I am researching the Spitting Cobra. It can shoot it's venom up to eight feet. The Spitting Cobra usually spits the venom in the eye of the attacker.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Add to top one.
The venom goes into a prey if the Komoo dragon bites it. Also, if a "dragon" is looking for food, no problem! A Komodo dragon has a keen sense of smell. If the wind is blowing the correct way, a Komodo dragon can smell 5 miles away!

  7. Instead of Komoo I meant to say Komodo on my second post.

  8. My animal is the Chameleon. The chameleon changes color due it's emotions. Chameleons grow up to 2 feet long! By changing color chameleons communicate. Can be found in Africa, Asia, and Europe.

  9. I'm researching the Bat. There were a ton of
cool facts that I learned about bats, did you
Know that the vampire Bat only sucks blood
from cattle and horses. Also some bats catch
fruit and insects. Bats are nocturnal creatures.

  10. I am doing the penguin and did you know that (I got this from another place) when a penguin swims, from the bottom it looks light like the ocean top and when you look down on it , it looks like the dark, deep, ocean. That is how it camouflages and that is how it escapes predators.

  12. Hey its Christian A. I am doing the Viperfish. The viperfish has very long and sharp teeth. They prey upon small species of dolphins and sharks. Their unusually large teeth of the viperfish help it to grab hold of its prey. This fish also hunts in the darkness. In spite of its ferocious apperance, the viperfish is a small animal.

  13. The king cobra is a very unique animal. It's apperance is olive green or tan with faint paint yellow cross bands. It eats snakes( venomous or non-venomous), lizards, eggs, and small mammals. It lives in the Philippines, Burma, and many other places. King cobras are shy, but when they are cornered they are very agressive.

  18. I have the Lesser Bush Baby! Also, known as the Bush Baby. The Bush Baby is 8 inches, less than a pound, big reddish-brownish eyes due to nocturnal vision! It has a small sphere tail and thin light tan toes. Plus, a small noes! The Bush Baby has fluffy grey to brown fluffy fur! Also, has long legs for jumping.
The Bush Baby is an omnivore. That means it eats meat and plants such as gums, sap, insects, fruit, and vegetable matter. Wild cats eat Bush Babys! :( Sadly, snakes and owls eat the Bush Baby, too!
The Lesser Bush Baby lives in Southern Africa in woodlands and savannahs.
Its unique adaptations are its eyes are a shrill call because there is some redness that scares predators. Also, the Bush Baby makes piercing cries like the human baby to communicate and each sound such as choking, chattering, and clucking sounds. Every sound is a different call than another!
That's all about the bush baby!

  19. The hooded seal blowes it tongue up. The tongue looks like a red balloon. The hooded seal stays on land most of the time. There is still an annual hunt of adult hooded seals on the front. The hooded seal is found in the far north Atlantic ocean. The total hooded seal population is estimated to be 650,000.

  27. Another adaptation is its sharp claws too dig under ground to get sheltered and get its foodfor living.

    ReplyDelete
  28. A unique adaptation of my animal is one of its eyes looks up while the other looks down! That way it can watch out for predators while looking for food. Chameleons eyes also camouflage! These are unique adaptations of my animal the Chameleon.

    ReplyDelete
  31. It says that predators of a hedgehog never hunt them. They pass them to catch an easier prey. When a hedgehog is a baby it has lot's of furry hair. It's fur is smooth and soft.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Swordfish can eat minos, clownfish, and other small fish. Have to go!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Komodo dragons can climb trees, just in case a prey climbs a tree. A funny thing about Komodo dragons is, just like sharks, that they can grow a new tooth if one falls out or breaks out. "Dragons" have a highly flexible skull, that allows them to swallow large peices of food.
By the way, more about the venom I forgot. The venom is made out of virelent bacteria to kill prey with one bite. Some survive the original attack, but even if they did, they would still die because of infection. An example is, on Life, Komodo dragons bit a water buffalo. The water buffalo survived the original attack, but two weeks later, died of infection. Another adaptation about komodo dragons is they have a venom gland with different kinds of bacteria to disable prey

  34. My animal the Lesser Bush Baby has a REALLY unique adaptation! You want to know that right? Okay! Its eyes are a shrill call and warn off preadators because their eyes look red like a devil! Plus, the Bush Baby makes piercing cries like the human baby to communicate! Now heres a intresting fact from its unique adaptation! The Bush Baby makes a choking, chattering, and clucking sound and every sound is a different call! That's why I chose this animal because its unique adaptaions really intrested me!!!!!!!!!!!! Fast Fact: The Bush Baby's lifespan is 16 years and up!

  36. Vultures, as you probaly know, eat dead animals. They have a great sense of smell. New Word vultures (a type of vulture) also have an acute sense of eyesight, too. That's how they find dead, or dying animals.
There are two types of vultures. There's New World (which are found in the Americas) and Old World (which are found in Asia, Africa, and Europe).

  37. I actually would prefer to do a brochure instead of a Venn Diagram. I am sorry I am typing so much posts.

  38. Did you know the Spitting Cobra is native to Africa and Asia. If the Cobras venom touches your skin it won't hurt, but if the venom hits your eye it could blind you. Don't scare it or you will be shot with the venom. Careful the Cobra can put the venom in with his bite. The Cobra can reach more than 9 feet in length.Spitting Cobras are Carnivores and picky eaters. They eat eggs, lizards, and birds.

  41. The King cobra is a very venomous snake. It can dislocate it's lower jaw to make a big meal to fit in their mouth. Also, the King cobra venom that is neurotoxic. They are the only snake that guard their nest until the hatchling are hatch. They have a fork tongue that pick up the scent particles and transfers them to jacobsons organ in the roof of their mouth, so when they sense their prey they flick their tongue to the direction of their prey.

  42. Hi this is Christian again. The viperfish is one of the most unusual looking fish in the deep sea. In spite all of its ferocious apperance, it is a relatively small animal. I grows about to about 11 or 12 inches(30 centimeters)in length. It's color is usually dark silver or blue in color. But it's coloration can vary from green, to silver or to black. Althought the main light organs is located at the end of the enlongated dorsal fin ray, their are also photophores located all along the side of the fish. These may camoflauge it from predators below them. These lights make the underbelly blend in with the extremely faint light from above. These may also serve to attract prey to communicate with potential mates or rivals.

  48. The vulture has a heavy, hooked beak. It's feet are really stubby, so the vulture doesn't walk too well. Their claws, though, are extremely sharp. That's how vultures grip their prey. Now the wings are really something to look at. They're 12 feet long! One of their more unpleasent features is their bald head. But still, it's an adaptation. A cool thing is that vultures have a nostril hole right through their beak! So you could look into one side of the nostril hole and see out the other!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. The vulture's unique adaptation is it's extremely long wings. With a 12 foot wingspan these wings make the vulture fly beautifully. It's bald head, as I mentioned before, is an adaptation. That means no feathers to keep clean. The New World Vulture's amazing sight is an important adaptation. For eample, a California condor can spot a dying deer a mile away.
